3 Day Short-term course on
Synthesis and Characterization of Nano-Materials
(With Case Studies) : SCNM-2010
25-27 February 2010

The departments of Mechanical and Industrial production engineering, K L University are organizing a three day short term course on "SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF NANO-MATERIALS" from 25th -27th February 2010.

Aim & Scope

Nanotechnology creates and works with small materials at the scale of molecules by manipulating single atoms. The name nano comes from the size of molecules, which is measured in nanometers - or one billionth of a meter (0.000000001 meter). The goal of nanotechnology is to control individual atoms and molecules to create computer chips and other devices that are thousands of times smaller than current technologies permit. Beyond being used in computers, communication and medical related devices, nanotechnology could be used to design other products, change the properties of materials and make advances in the field of mechanical engineering.

This course highlights the applications of nano-materials in the field of mechanical engineering and enables the participants to choose a research area by the end of the workshop.

Course Objectives

Size, surface and confinement effects form the foundations of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology that has been recognized as of key importance in science, technology and economics in the 21st century. Knowing the synthesis and characterization is crucial to the teachers who will cope with issues such as nano- materials for various applications. The course shall acquaint the participants with the basic synthesis techniques and concepts on characterization. The participants will be able to get a good understanding of fundamental knowledge and analytical skills towards designing new functional nano-materials.

Resource Persons

The course lectures will be delivered by eminent speakers drawn from R&D centres and institutions of academic excellence across India.
