Department of Physics

The Physics Department is a DST- FIST sponsored department with experienced Doctoral faculty, research oriented teaching and training, well-equipped research labs like Nanotechnology, Glass Science, Energy storage-Batteries, open electives from other branches of Engineering and Atmospheric Science etc., active collaboration with International Universities and R&D organizations and regular conferences, webinars by international faculty, workshops conducted to discuss current research developments in Physics.

The department’s areas of research include Glass Science, Material Science, Nanotechnology, and Energy Storage and has completed 3 Women Scientist projects worth INR 1.04 Cr, sponsored research projects worth INR 1.67 Cr currently underway, sanctioned by DST under Young Scientist Scheme, Early Career Award and UGC- DAE Scheme. The department also received a DST-FIST Level-1 project worth INR 1.12 crores.

Ph.D. in Physics

KL Deemed to be Univeristy offers the Ph.D with specialisations in the areas listed below. Candidates select their specialisation at the time of applying for the programme. Once admitted, the students will not be allowed to change their specialisation. Based on the pool of applications and suitability of the candidates, a specific specialisation may decide not to offer admissions to students in an academic year.

Programme Details

Master Degree in Physics or its relevant stream with atleast 55% marks in aggregate OR 5.5 CGPA on 10 pointer scale) AND having a valid score in KL-Ph.D entrance test /GPAT/UGC/CSIR-NET + interview.

Ph.D. (Physics) [Full Time / Part Time]

Duration : Minimum 3 yrs. (from the date of initial registration)

Admission Criteria

  • An applicant will be short listed for interview on the basis of his/ her score in the entrance examination (Ph.D.)
  • The final selection for admission in Ph.D. will be based on the performance in Entrance Test (70% weightage) and Interview (30% weightage) subject to scoring minimum marks in the Interview

Programme Fee (per semester) ₹xx,xxx/-

Scholarship of up to 70% of the Programme fee is offered in Ph.D. programmes to candidates based on their affiliations and/ or research outcomes. For example candidates from Centrally Funded Research Labs/ Industry Professionals/ Teaching Fraternity etc. are considered for various Scholarships.
