Prestigious AICTE Lilavati Award bestowed to KL Deemed to be University

Exemplary work recognized in the field of Women Empowerment

An enterprising team of KL Deemed to be University has been awarded the covetous AICTE Lilavati Award 2022 in recognition of the exemplary work in the field of women empowerment. On the occasion of International Women’s Day i.e. on 8th March 2022, the 2nd edition of the Lilavati Awards Ceremony was organized. Out of 500 teams, 27 teams of faculty members, non-teaching staff, and students were awarded for their contribution to creating a more equitable society.

KL Deemed to be University’s team bagged the 2nd runner-up position under the category environment, sanitation, and hygiene, and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-. Apart from the cash award, the Council recognized the contribution of the institutions of the winning team by means of an Appreciation Certificate.

The AICTE Lilavati award is an innovation award scheme for all the stakeholders (especially the girl students) in engineering and technical institutions. The award was named after the great mathematician and astronomer Lilavati, whose work and contribution are popularly known as Lilavati Ganitham (Lilavati Mathematics).

Every year a noble theme is chosen to promote the award ceremony in the country, and this year’s theme was Women Empowerment. All the participants who competed for this award submitted their remarkable intervention for the cause and the impact they made on society. Their contributions were showcased in eight categories: Women’s and Adolescent Health, Environment, Literacy and Life skills, Women Innovators, Sanitation and Hygiene, Technology for Women, Women Entrepreneurship, Self-Defense, and Legal Awareness.

Expressing happiness on the achievement, Mrs. Kanchana Latha Koneru, Secretary, KL Education Foundation (KLEF), complimented the team (KL SHYNE) of Women forum, who has been diligently working on various projects and initiatives to enable this achievement see the light. Madam Kanchana has always proactively taken the lead to encourage the KL Women Forum to progressively work for the welfare of the women and promote an all-inclusive, gender-sensitive, and empowering ecosystem for a healthy society in and around.

Koneru Lakshmaiah Sanitation & Hygiene (KL SHYNE) Team is a special team constituted by the women’s forum of Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation with a motive to design dynamic and transformation-oriented programs. KL SHYNE Team worked in 19 villages of Guntur & Mylavaram under the theme of “Environment, Sanitation & Hygiene”. The KL SHYNE Team consists of Dr. Ruth Ramya Kalangi, Associate Professor, CSE & KL SHYNE Team Leader, Mrs. Sri Lakshmi, Assistant Professor, B.Pharmacy, Dr. Brahmachari, Associate Professor, Civil, and Ms. M. Sai Snigdha, Student, CSE. The entire program is divided into five interventions: clean environment, sanitation, hygienic surroundings in the community, home & personal hygiene, water conservation & waste management.
