CII awards KL Deemed to be University for Setting Benchmarks in Water and Waste Management

KL Deemed to be University was awarded 2nd prize in the excellence in water management and 3rd prize in the excellence in waste management practices under the category of Best Solid Waste Management by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) at the 2nd edition of CII - South Region Water / Waste Management competitions 2022 in Chennai recently.

Water is one of the most important resources which are used extensively and intensively by businesses across all industries. Long-term misuse of water resources is a major issue that causes rising global water demand, and it has a great impact on climate change. With the help of innovative ideas and technological, non-technical, and digital breakthroughs, Indian industries are successfully managing their water needs.

The award recognizes the relentless efforts of KL Deemed to be University in setting-up benchmark practices in Water Management and enhancing the Universities Waste Management in line with the Governments ‘Swachh Bharat Programme through impactful initiatives.

The Koneru Lakshmaiah Educational Foundation is committed to implementing waste segregation and measurement of different types of solid waste- collection of waste, separation of solid waste at the source level to channel waste to wealth through recovery, reuse, recycling, and reject by adhering to waste management policies and guidelines and also reducing waste on an annual basis.

Some of the initiatives undertaken by the University include- no banners on campus, plastic-free campus, LED Display on the campus, paperless office, E-bulletin boards, using re-usable plates, ban on paper plates and paper cups, use of steel glasses, and eco-friendly plates and glasses (which are completely edible).

Expressing his delight in receiving the award, Vice-Chancellor of the University applauded the efforts of one and all and said that this achievement is a testament to our incalculable efforts; and responsible contribution toward building a safer ecosystem for society. We are elated, that we can create an impactful difference in the lives of the people, and we will continue to improve our processes in the desired direction.

The award was presented by Mr. N K Ranganath, Past Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu, and Mr. N Mahesan, Chief Engineer (SWM) Greater Chennai Corporation, Government of Tamil Nadu at an event held on 5th July 2022. On behalf of the University, the awards were received by Mr. K J Brahma Chari Associate Dean, Construction and Maintenance - P&D, and Dr. GRK Prasad, Associate Dean (Strategic Management).

The award was received under the guidance of Dr. V. Rajesh, Dean, Planning and Development) and with the support of staff from the planning and development division.
