Dr. K. Subrahmanyam, Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, K L Deemed to be University has received a research grant of Rs. 1,03,22,145 (Rupees One Crore Three Lakhs Twenty Two Thousand and one Hundered Forty Five only) from Department of Science & Technology’s Science for Equity, Empowerment & Development (SEED) division of the Government of India for his project proposal “Precision Farming and the Value Addition for Scheduled Caste Population in Piduguralla Mandal, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh”. This is an inter-disciplinary project, the outcome of which would be beneficial to the weaker sections of the society. 20 acres of land and one hundred beneficiaries from Piduguralla, Janapadu, Guttikonda, Julakallu and Karalapadu villages have been identified for the implementation of the project through cooperative farming.

This project is aimed at promoting and adapting “Precision Farming” using Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to enhance the crop productivity. The project team will develop an Integrated Mobile Application for managing Drip irrigation, Fertigation and Disease management and also it will establish small and micro enterprises in Piduguralla mandal to optimize the processes of value added products of mirchi for commercialization. The necessary training and awareness workshops will be carried out to Improve in technical know-how knowledge skills of beneficiaries on the precision farming.

Soil Testing and Characterization (HPLC), Nursery preparation and management, Land preparation and Fertilizer (FYM, Bio,) application, drip irrigation, integrated nutrient management, disease management will be carried out at regular intervals. Formation of SHGs/SME in participating villages, Preparation of value added products and establishment of marketing linkages would be done during the 2nd and 3rd years of the project. Dr. M.S. R. Krishna, Associate Professor, BT department and Mr. Sripath Roy, Associate Professor, ECE department were acting as Co-Investigators of the project. Dr. D. Naga Malleswari, Associate Professor, Ms. S. Harika Lakshmi, Assistant Professor and Mr. A. Pavan Kumar, Assistant Professor from the Department of CSE were also nominated to support the project execution in field visits, societal interactions and technical developments. N. Sujatha, Deputy Director of Horticulture, Guntur and the Horticulture Officer of Piduguralla mandal, Sri Mohan have also congratulated Prof. Subrahmanyam for obtaining the research grant and mentioned that they are happy to collaborate and eagerly waiting for the research outcomes to improve the crop production & productivity of Mirchi crops. The President of KLEF Sri Koneru Satyanarayana, Vice Presidents Raja Harin and Lakshmana Havish, Chancellor Dr. S. S. Mantha, Vice Chancellor Dr. L. S. S. Reddy, Registrar Dr. YVSSV Prasad Rao, Heads of Departments of CSE, ECE, BT, Prof. Hari Kiran V, Prof. Suman M, Prof. Giridhar have congratulated Prof. Subrahmanyam and his team on the achievement and advised him to share the outcomes of the research project with others to enable/serve the society.
