Gender-Inclusivity fosters Equality among Students

Gender equality is a fundamental human right. Equality leads to a peaceful society with sustainable development. It has been proven that empowering women increases productivity and economic growth of the society and nation at large.

Some of the prominent reasons behind gender-based violence include lack of awareness of equality, condoning violence against women, rigid gender roles, and stereotypes that emphasize aggression and disrespect towards women.

KL Deemed to be University strongly believes that awareness on gender equality and sensitivity will significantly reduce violence against women. The University runs a robust gender sensitization program to create awareness about gender issues within the student community and among the public. The concept of gender champions can greatly tackles the ignorance surrounding equality.

To increase the outreach for creating a positive gender-sensitive environment that fosters gender equality, the University envisages engagement of ‘Gender Champions’ who value the girls and their rights on campus premises. Gender Champions would engage young boys and girls to challenge the gender norms make the campus more inclusive and disseminate gender equality where girls are treated with dignity and respect.

Committed to the cause of gender equity

Every year responsible leaders from among the students are selected as Gender Champions to facilitate a holistic and interdisciplinary approach to understanding the socio-cultural constraints of gender that shape the experience of women and men in society and also make them understand the implicit gender-based discrimination in a lifecycle approach. The faculty members and teacher coordinators are regularly in touch with the appointed Gender Champions to help them address different gender justice programs.

Academic efforts in the direction of gender parity

The University organizes awareness programs on various gender-related issues like gender discrimination, stereotypes, prejudices, and gender equality. It conducts group discussions, talks, workshops, seminars, theme-based plays, debates, film screenings, exhibitions, fests, painting competitions, exposure visits to various public service institutions, and capacity-building programs to engage stakeholders in gender mainstreaming activities.

Instilling positive values in the young developing minds

The University promotes leadership qualities in young girls and boosts their self-confidence and self-esteem. They also create social awareness and health awareness to develop strong personalities. The university organizes college fest on the theme of gender equality and women’s empowerment and encourages students to express their support for gender justice and equality. It enables the students to know the constitutional provisions and laws relating to women through regular awareness programs on important Government schemes, events, legislation, and court rulings.

Mrs. Kanchana Latha Koneru, Secretary, KL Education Foundation (KLEF) and President, Women Empowerment Society, is the driving force for KLEF & its Women forum. Under her able directions, KLEF has received All India's first ranking in Institutional Swatchatha Ranking. The University had adopted Five Mandals as part of the Smart village project. Her guidance consistently inspires towards women's development in all aspects of health and economic independence.

KLEF-Women's Forum has been honored with Indian Book of Records to promote the theme- Break the Bias. Recently the forum received the distinguished and covetous international book of records for the Biggest human structure of gender equality symbol in 2022. This was in recognition of the efforts to neutralize gender discrimination at KLEF. A faculty team of the Forum received a National award ‘LILAVATHI AWARD 2022’ from AICTE in the "Environment Sanitation & Hygiene" theme recently.
