Consistency and discipline is the key

Maddineni Uma Mahesh, a student of KL Deemed to be University, tasted grand success after consistent hard work and perseverance. This young sportsperson from Vijayawada is the most promising shooting star in India and aspires to bring a Gold medal in the upcoming Olympics to fulfill the dream of his father. Presently Uma Mahesh is preparing for Olympics 2024 and is confident that he will emerge as an Olympic Champion.

Uma Mahesh (18) who is currently pursuing a first-year engineering course from KL Deemed to be University, has won a gold medal in the 10-meter air rifle team event at the ISSF World Cup Junior Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in Suhl, Germany, held between 9th-20th May 2022. Uma Mahesh and his team members Makhija Paarthand Patil and Rudrankksh Balasaheb participated in the team event, and they defeated the Spain team by 16-8 points. Out of 780 candidates who participated in the qualifying event for the World cup, Uma Mahesh scored 628 points and won a bronze medal in the juniors segment.

Uma Mahesh has won gold in the Khelo India University Games in Bangalore and represented Andhra Pradesh at the under-19, 10-meter Air Rifle/Pistol at Khelo India in Haryana recently. In the last three years, Uma Mahesh won more than 35 medals in different events/competitions and brought laurels to the nation.

Talking about the achievements of his son, Mr. Ramakrishna proudly shared that at the age of 15yrs, Uma Mahesh set a world record by participating in the rifle event at the 63rd National-level Competition held in Bhopal. He scored 632.5/654 and created an All-India record score. From then onwards, there is no turning back to him. Mr. Ramakrishna is confident that with his highest level of discipline and dedication, Uma Mahesh will win a Gold medal in the upcoming Olympics, for which he is practicing day and night in different shooting ranges in Delhi, Bhopal, and Hyderabad. He believes that consistency and perseverance is the key to success.

Speaking on the occasion of the felicitation ceremony of Uma Shankar on the University campus, Vice-Chancellor Dr. G. Pardha Saradhi Varma said it's a delight to watch our students succeed in life and continue the success spree, Uma Mahesh. His win has also reiterated our commitment to inculcating sports culture in our students, and we will continue our support for next-gen sportsmanship. The University has a 100% fee concession in sports quota for national and international players.
