Engineering is not an educational qualification; it is a way of thinking

Science is discovering the essential truths about what exists in the Universe, engineering is about creating things that never existed

Elon Musk

In honor of M. Visvesvaraya, an engineering legend in India, September 15th is celebrated as Engineer's Day. He was a highly disciplined engineer who was renowned for his sincerity, excellent time management, and unmatched commitment to a project. His job as a civil engineer included everything from constructing roads to erecting dams and anti-flood systems.

The future of our country is in the hands of engineers. It is only the engineers who have the power to do the impossible because they think and they create what we find unreal. Their innovation and imagination make them magicians in a true sense. And that is why it's said that engineering is not an educational qualification; it is a way of thinking.

We grabbed a few moments from the life of our alumnus to re-cherish their college days and pass through memory lane by recollecting their vision as an engineer and sharing their message to budding engineers.

Kiran-Palla

1. Mr. Kiran Palla,Senior Advisor to ACIO (Executive), U.S Federal Government, was a 1988-92 batch Mechanical Engineering alumni of KL Deemed to be University. His proud accomplishment as an engineer was the design of an automated road divider lane paint device he created during his college days, and the proposal was submitted to the then Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. As an engineer, another moment of great accomplishment was when he designed a mini electric circuit that modulates the temperature in the data center's high-end computers and regulates the increase in the hot/cold section of the data center.

KL Deemed to be University's foundation helped me think holistically when solving a problem. I always take a problem and apply all possible solutions to arrive at the best solution by considering all possible influencing factors. This type of design thinking makes me successful in my professional career, said the elated Kiran Palla.

2. Ms. Sreedevi Ande, was a 1993-97 batch pass-out from the Mechanical Engineering course and alumni of KL Deemed to be University and is currently working as Program Manager at Microsoft. 5. Ms. Mydhili Vadlamani,Founder of RBDSOFTWARE Solution Pvt. Ltd., was an alumnus of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) 2009-2013 batch student of the KL Deemed to be University.

It is always a proud moment for me to be an engineering graduate from KL, which is the reason for what I am today. In my opinion, an Engineer is the one who creates a better impact on society.

During my college days, as everything was new to me, the professors identified my potential and guided me on the right path. During those days, even though the opportunities were less and technology was not developed as it is today, we were lucky enough to have a place like KL that helped us to explore and get placed on campus then and for what I am now.

My message to my buddies is Today's technology is vast, and the opportunities are pretty much more. An engineer is required to identify his potential, explore, seek the right guidance, and achieve the goal.

His message to budding engineers is to make the best of the present. Today’s world is different, and information is in the palm of every person. Many experts can give suggestions to someone in a remote village from any part of the world. The current generation is lucky as there are tools like the Internet, Mobile that got everything under the sun to our living room. One can sit at home and learn almost everything at any time and own pace and can start working in IT right after Engineering.

My message to the Engineers is plain and simple. Believe in yourself. Don't get disturbed by anyone's comments or feedback. Operate with a positive mind with a clear path towards the goal that you have set. Be curious to know about jobs, prospects, and opportunities. Irrespective of the Engineering branches, you can scale heights if you possess the right attitude and aptitude. Take calculated risks but get your aims and goals straight. If you are serious in life, you can attain the highest position in any organization. Enjoy your college time, play sports, focus on health, maintain good friends but think out of the box, think about Innovation, generate new ideas, and how you can solve world problems or outside problems using technology. Never be afraid of failure. Get the right contacts or connections to give you the right advice. Focus on your English Communication (verbal and written) because that is equally important in today's corporate world. Best wishes to all the Engineers.
