The National Service Scheme (NSS) was launched in 1969 with an aim to involve mainly undergraduate students on a voluntary basis. Various activities like social service and national development are carried out for contribution towards socio-economic progress. NSS provide opportunities to the students to understand the problems of the communities, awaken social consciousness and inculcate a sense of dignity of labour.
Headed by Dr. Radhakrishnan, recommended introduction of national service in the academic institutions on a voluntary basis with a view to developing healthy contacts between the students and teachers on the one hand and establishing a constructive linkage between the campus and the community on the other hand.
"Not Me, But You" expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless services and appreciation of another man's point of view. It emphasizes that the welfare of an individual is dependent on the welfare of society as a whole.
This program aims to inculcate social welfare thoughts in the students, providing service to society without prejudice. Volunteers work to ensure the needy get help, enhancing their standard of living and dignity.
NSS was formally launched on 24th September 1969. Every year, this day is celebrated as NSS Day with various programs and activities.
