Abstract
It's a most common phenomenon that women have been unceasingly resorting to some form of suppression either it may be physical, psychological or educational or societal. R.K. Narayan's Rosie is a quintessence of psychological or emotional suppression by both her husband and Raju, who helps her at one stage and later exploited her. This research paper emphasizes how a woman who doesn't have any sophisticated knowledge about society and particularly about men, undergoes so many predicaments in her life journey, and how she becomes indomitable and shrewd by not relying either on her husband or his lover. She transforms from that of an innocent woman to that of an overwhelming indomitable woman. Narayan is triumphant in delineating realistic and robust characters for which he has been conferred Sahitya Academy award for his novel .The Guide.
