Workshops/Seminars /Guest lectures

1. Department of Biotechnology organized a guest lecture on "Mineral-microbe interactions concerned with minerals bioprocessing" was delivered by Dr. Hanumantha Rao Kota, Professor from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway, on 24-08-15. His talk was very inspiring to the young aspirants, especially those hoping to make a career in mineral bioprocessing. This lecture mainly covers conventional and latest methods of mineral processing and interlinkage of microorganisms for mineral processing.

2. Department of Biotechnology organized a National Seminar, "BIOTRENDZ-2015, DST sponsored-National Level Seminar and Technical Paper contest" on 27-08-2015. Technical Paper contest was conducted on thrust areas of Biotechnology and received more than 150 research articles from students of various colleges and universities. A total of 200 participants from colleges offering U.G and P.G programme of Biotechnology and Pharmacy were also registered for this seminar. During this Seminar, Dr. Lakshmi Chelluri from Global Hospitals delivered a talk on "Advances in Biological Sciences". Dr. P. Naveen Kumar from Oil Palm Research Institute delivered an expert talk on "Role of transcriptional factors in fragrance metabolic pathway". Another talk on "Different Research Grants and Fellowships available at DBT, Government of India" was given by Dr. Arun S Ninawe, Advisor, DBT, Government of India.

Scientist Visited:

1. Dr. Arun S Ninawe, Advisor, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India, Dr. P. Naveen Kumar, Senior Scientist from Oil Palm Research Institute, Pedavegi, West Godavari Dist., Andhra Pradesh and Dr. Lakshmi Chelluri, Head, Regenerative Medicine from Global Hospitals, Hyderabad, T.S. have visited the Biotechnology Department and interacted with faculty members and Research Scholars.

Student Association Activities:

1. On 28-07-15, inaugural function of BIOTRENDZ-15 was organized by Biotechnology student association, BETA, in the room C-625. During this function, the faculty members of Biotechnology department unveiled the BIOTRENDZ-15 poster.

2. 28th and 29th August 2015, BETA organized Blood Group Testing Camp. As part of During this event, more than 1600 students from Freshman Engineering Department, KLU have got their blood grouping done. Around 100 Volunteers and Faculty Incharges participated in this programme.

Department's Recognition- at National/ International Level:

1. Department of Biotechnology is recognized and funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST) under Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure (FIST).

Webinars Organised:

1. On 20-08-2015, Dr.Praveen Kumar, Assoc. Professor, BT, organised a webinar by Prof. Eric Lader from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA. His talk was entitled "Basic mechanism of Cloning ".

NSS/NCC/Social Services/CEA Activities:

1. During 28th and 29th August 2015, Department of Biotechnology NSS cell organized Blood Group Testing Camp. As part of this event, more than 1600 students from Freshman Engineering Department, KLU have got their blood grouping done. Around 100 Volunteers and Faculty Incharges participated in this programme.

2. On 30th August 2015, Department of Biotechnology NSS cell organized Swachh Bharat and Plantation Drive in Vaddeswaram village, Guntur District. Around 120 Volunteers and Faculty Incharges participated in the programme.
