Mechanical Engineering at K L University is a very versatile established engineering branch in 1980. The program duration is 4 years (8 Semesters) and explores important core areas like Product Design, Smart Manufacturing & Automation, Automobile Electronics and many more. We have consulted major players in the industry such as Hyundai R&D, Robert Bosch and Ashok Leyland in designing our program to enable you to learn what the real world wants. And, as you emphasize on Industry 4.0 capabilities, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning and Python or MATLAB programming, you should be ready to excel in both mechanical and information technology areas.
The B.Tech Mechanical Engineering program is structured with a modern curriculum. To complete graduation, one must earn 170 credits. In the middle of the academic journey, you will be exposed to industrial visits and will have a chance to do internships for 6 months to 1 year at top manufacturing companies.
Yes, there are 7 industry-leading specialisations in the mechanical engineering branch:
B.Tech program in Mechanical engineering at K L University has four varieties of flexible learning options depending on student preferences which means that you can customize your degree:
This is the regular program and a student earns a B.Tech Degree (in Mechanical Engineering) in course when he/she completes the program with a minimum of 170 credits.
When you consistently maintain a CGPA of 8.5 or above till the fourth semester, then you will be eligible for B.Tech Degree with Honours. This demands gaining an excess 20 credits by pursuing additional advanced courses.
The department of Mechanical Engineering offers 7 specializations, which you can do anything of your interest. At the end you will be graduated with a specialization, which will give a competitive edge in the particular field.
You can also get a B.Tech Degree with a minor by successfully taking up the 20 extra credits. It is also done by taking courses that are offered as part of the professional core in another department so you are able to gain interdisciplinary knowledge.
The department actively supports various student associations and professional societies that serve as vital platforms for extracurricular learning and development:
1. Mechanical Engineering Students Association (MESA):
This is the main student body in the department which enables students to gather and take part in various events both technical as well as non-technical. The MESA serves as an essential source to make students meet with other department students and give them exposure and social contacts that add colour to the student life and also gives them a stand regarding leadership and the attitude of camaraderie.
2. SAE Club (Society of Automotive Engineers):
Being a part of this club opens up opportunities to organise events, participate in activities, and gain valuable leadership experience. Members get access to key resources in mobility technology, including guest lectures, seminars, and symposiums on topics like autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, engine technology, and aerospace applications.
3. ASME Club (American Society of Mechanical Engineers):
The ASME Club encourages collaboration, knowledge sharing, skill-building, and career enhancement across engineering disciplines. It’s a platform where the global engineering community comes together to discuss, innovate, and develop solutions that improve quality of life.
4. ISHRAE Professional Society (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers):
The department is also affiliated with ISHRAE student and faculty chapters, offering specialised learning and networking in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVAC&R) technologies.
Beyond professional societies, there are several dedicated technical clubs and innovation centres that offer hands-on learning and skill development:
This is an inclusive team comprising six different vehicle design and development groups. These teams are made up of passionate, engineering-driven students who love cars and innovation. They design and build their own vehicles and compete annually in national and international competitions hosted by SAE, ASME, ISIE, ISNEE, and i2i.
This eco-conscious club focuses on designing and building electric bikes. Student teams, like Team Gavisti, have won multiple accolades—including champion titles, Best Commercial Bike, Best Design, Best Low-Cost Vehicle, and Best Captain awards—at events like the Asian e-Bike Challenge.
Here, students design and build combustion, hybrid, or electric race cars to meet specific event requirements. Teams such as Team Vanquishers showcase their engineering talent in competitions like Formula Bharat, where they often win in categories such as acceleration, endurance, and design.
This club takes part in the international ASME HPVC, where students design sustainable and efficient transport prototypes. Team Avidhruth represents the university and continues to evolve in these highly competitive events, applying strong engineering principles.
Dedicated to motorsports, this club fosters creativity, innovation, and hands-on skills through Go-Kart design and fabrication. Team Sang Froid has won several recognitions, including the Future Award and Spirit Award, and consistently ranks high in technical evaluations.
Focused on designing all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), this club emphasizes deep knowledge of vehicle dynamics, suspension systems, and cutting-edge technology. Team Unblockabulls represents the club and works continuously to excel in these tough, real-world competitions.
This centre's core essence is to motivate, inspire, and nurture young students and engineers by exposing them to new ideas and societal problems, leading to innovative and economic solutions. Experts within the K L E F Mechanical Innovation Centre actively incubate student ideas, helping them develop into successful start-up companies.
This club focuses on the development of electrical-powered vehicles with innovative features aimed at improving efficiencies, incorporating interactive features, automation, and enhancing the charging capacities of electric vehicles. "Team Gavisti" also operates under this umbrella, working on E-bikes for various competitions.
Innovation and entrepreneurship are at the heart of this centre. It inspires and supports young students and engineers to tackle real-world challenges with fresh ideas that lead to practical and economic solutions. At the KLEF Mechanical Innovation Centre, trained faculty members actively mentor students, nurturing their ideas from concept to reality—often resulting in successful startup ventures.
This club is focused on the innovation of battery-powered vehicles. It encourages students to explore new ways to improve e-mobility through enhanced efficiency, automation, smarter features, and advanced charging systems for electric cars. Under this umbrella, Team Gavisti is also actively working on E-bikes and proudly represents the university in various competitive racing events.
