M.Tech in Geo-Informatics program at KL University is for those who want to use advanced technology to solve real world problems. You will learn how to use digital maps and geographic data to resolve the issues in city planning, manage disasters, and more. It is a degree that combines civil engineering with the power of modern data science.
This two year, full time Master of Technology (M.Tech) program is a specialized course that combines civil engineering principles with the powerful tools of Geo-Informatics. You will learn about Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, and Global Positioning Systems (GPS).
This field is all about using location data and satellite imagery to create smart solutions for city planning, natural resource management, and environmental monitoring and disaster response. The program is designed to give you a strong mix of theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills through labs and a research-focused project. The curriculum is a blend of theory, hands-on lab work, and a significant research project. This prepares you for specialized roles in both government and private sectors.
The M.Tech Geo-Informatics curriculum is divided into four semesters. The program gives you a comprehensive understanding of the field, from foundational concepts to advanced applications.
The program includes a major research project in the final year, giving you the opportunity to apply what you've learned to a specific area of interest.
You need to meet the following requirements to be eligible for the M.Tech Geo-Informatics program.
Academic Qualification: A B.E./B.Tech degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from a recognized university. Candidates with a bachelor's degree in other engineering branches or an M.Sc in relevant fields like Geology or Physics may also be eligible.
| Campus | Duration | Admission Fee | Semester Fee | Total 1st Semester |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vijayawada | 2 Years | ₹16,000 | ₹62,500 | ₹78,500 |

An M.Tech in Geo-Informatics opens up great job opportunities. Companies and government agencies that need geographic data hire people with this degree with priorty.
Graduates can find jobs in government agencies like ISRO and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), and private companies in sectors like transportation, urban planning, and environmental consulting.
Though the program is based on the Civil Engineering department, students from other engineering backgrounds like Computer Science or even those with an M.Sc in certain science fields can also apply.
GIS is one tool for working with maps and geographic data, while Geo-Informatics is a bigger field that also includes GIS, remote sensing, GPS, and other methods to study and manage location-based information.
While Civil Engineering focuses on construction and infrastructure, Geo-Informatics integrates GIS, remote sensing, GPS, and data science to solve urban planning, environmental, and disaster management challenges. This makes graduates more versatile and future-ready.
Students work on applications like smart city design, flood prediction, climate monitoring, natural resource mapping, and disaster response systems. This ensures learning is directly tied to solving current and future global challenges.
The program offers hands-on training with industry-standard GIS and remote sensing software, drone mapping, and photogrammetry tools, alongside labs and fieldwork. This combination of theory and practice makes graduates industry-ready.
Graduates can pursue roles as GIS Analysts, Remote Sensing Specialists, Urban Planners, Surveyors, Geospatial Developers, or Researchers. With governments and private sectors investing heavily in smart cities and climate solutions, demand is rising rapidly.
Job opportunities exist in government agencies like ISRO, NRSC, Survey of India, and municipal bodies, as well as private sectors like transportation, urban planning, infrastructure, renewable energy, and environmental consulting.
