SOCIETY FOR DEBATING AND MOOTING (SDM)

The Society for Debating and Mooting (SDM) supplanted the erstwhile Moot Court Society in 2023. The Society currently boasts Mr. Mudassir Rasool Wani as its Chief Mentor, whose adept mentorship has heralded the ascension of students towards unparalleled success and eminence in the realm of mooting.

SDM, an entity governed by the tenets of scholarly pursuit and student-driven initiatives, finds its genesis within the hallowed halls of our esteemed institution. Herein, students, under the sagacious guidance of erudite faculty mentors, embark to master the intricate art of mooting. This exercise, a veritable cornerstone of legal pedagogy, imbues students with the indispensable skills requisite for the resolution of legal quandaries.

The raison d'être of the Moot Court Society is to foment within students a fervent passion for the praxis of mooting, thereby facilitating a nuanced understanding of legal research methodologies. It avails students of the resources essential for navigating online legal databases with aplomb, empowering them to distill cogent legal propositions germane to moot propositions. These endeavours, culminating in the articulation of cogent arguments within moot court competitions, epitomize the Society's unwavering commitment to excellence. Throughout the academic calendar, our august faculty members, illustrious alumni, and assiduous student body convene weekly sessions dedicated to the multifaceted facets of mooting. These sessions, ranging from introductory primers to advanced workshops on research methodologies, legal interpretation, and oral advocacy mechanics, serve as crucibles wherein legal acumen is forged and honed.

The august precincts of the College of Law at K L University have borne witness to the fruition of thre legs of the KL Memorial National Moot Court Competition, moot court competitions christened the Shri Koneru Lakshmaiah Memorial Moot Court. These competitions, characterised by nationwide participation, stand as a testament to our commitment to fostering practical legal acumen among aspirants. It is within this crucible that burgeoning legal minds are afforded the practical exposure necessary for their maturation. The year 2019 bore witness to the convergence of over 40 esteemed institutions, rendering the event an indelible milestone in the annals of legal pedagogy. Esteemed jurists, including former Justices of the Supreme Court, Justice Jasti Chelameswar and Justice Venkate Gopala Gowda, presided over the adjudication process, lending further gravitas to the proceedings. The Fourth leg of the series of competitions is scheduled to take place in August 2024.

In addition to this, the SDM has conducted Donation Drives (Juriscare) where students vehemently contributed towards the noble cause and shared some precious moments with inhabitants of an orphanage. The SDM also published a quarterly newsletter, "Lex Eloquentia" which landscapes the achievements of our students across different competitions at the national and international level.
