Thrust Areas

Broad thrust areas:

Besides the R&D focus, the faculty at the KLEF Pharmacy department possess unique skills and knowledge in Drug discovery, Formulation and development, Animal testing and quality control for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API). The department can offer the following consultancy services to the pharmaceutical and health care industries.

Pharmaceutical Formulation and Drug Delivery:

Research in this area focuses on developing innovative drug delivery systems, such as nanoparticles, liposomes, and transdermal patches, to enhance drug efficacy and patient compliance.

Pharmacology and Therapeutics:

This area involves the study of drug interactions, mechanisms of action, and the development of new drugs for the treatment of various diseases and conditions.

Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics:

Research in this area aims to understand how drugs are absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted by the body and how their effects are related to their concentrations at the site of action.

Drug Discovery and Development:

Drug discovery is a complex and multidisciplinary process aimed at identifying and developing new pharmaceutical compounds that can be used as medications to treat diseases or medical conditions. Medicinal chemists work on the entire process of drug discovery, from target identification to clinical development and post-market surveillance. collaborate with biologists, pharmacologists, and other experts to design and optimize drug candidates.

Chemical Compound Design:

Medicinal chemists design chemical compounds that have the potential to interact with specific biological targets, such as proteins or enzymes. These compounds may be synthetic (created in the lab) or natural products (extracted from plants or microorganisms).

Clinical Pharmacy and Patient Care:

This area emphasizes optimizing medication use, patient counseling, and promoting safe and effective drug therapy, often in collaboration with healthcare teams.

Natural Products and Herbal Medicines:

Investigating the potential therapeutic benefits of natural compounds, plant extracts, and traditional herbal medicines.
