Periodicals Section
The Periodical Section of the KLEF Central Library plays a pivotal role in providing access to current information across various disciplines. This section manages the acquisition, organization, and dissemination of serial publications, including journals, magazines, and newspapers.
Acquisition and Subscription Management:
- Identifying and selecting relevant periodicals that align with the academic and research needs of the university community.
- Managing subscriptions to ensure timely receipt of issues.
- The library currently subscribes to over 173 print journals, including both Indian and foreign publications.
- Journals received as gifts are also displayed on the shelves.
Cataloging and Classification:
- Processing new periodicals by cataloging and classifying them for easy retrieval.
- Maintaining an up-to-date catalog accessible to users.
Circulation and Access:
- Providing access to current and back issues of periodicals.
- Implementing circulation policies for periodicals, which may differ from those for books.
Binding and Preservation:
- Binding loose issues into volumes for preservation and ease of use.
- Ensuring the longevity of periodicals through proper storage and handling.
User Services:
- Assisting users in locating and utilizing periodical resources.
- Providing guidance on accessing electronic journals and databases.
Inter-library Loan and Resource Sharing:
- Facilitating access to periodicals not available within the library through interlibrary loan services.
