Bio Technology

Research Achievements
  1. Department of Biotechnology is recognized and funded by Department of Science and Technology (DST) under Fund for Improvement of Science and Technology Infrastructure (FIST).
  2. Department of Biotechnology, K L University signed MOU with Directorate of Oil Plam Research, Pedavegi, West-Godavari, A.P.

Events Organised:
  1. Department of Biotechnology organized a guest lecture on Physical Evidence and Crime Scene Processing which was delivered by Mrs. Sharada Avadhanam, Director of the AP Forensic Science Laboratories on 23-07-14. Her talk was very inspiring to the young aspirants, especially those hoping to make a career in forensics. This lecture mainly covers how biological tissues are collected from the site of offense and how they are analyzed in the Forensic Science Laboratories with the aid of biotechnology tools.
  2. A guest lecture was delivered for especially for final Year B. Tech. students of the Department on 26-08-14 by Dr. Leo Daniel Amalraj of research coordinator for Varsha Bioscience and Technology Private Limited (VBTIPL), Hyderabad. His presentation was entitled "Career Opportunities in Agricultural Biotechnology" and was designed to enlighten the students on the topic of the new avenues opening up for aspiring Biotechnologists in the area of Agricultural Biotechnology. He gave insights to the students on technical and applicative aspects of Biotechnology for research and development (R&D), manufacture and marketing of eco-friendly agriculture products like biofertilizers, pesticides, resistant and high-yielding crop varieties.
  3. One more talk was delivered on 28-08-14 by Mr. Venkat Ikkurthy, SAS Consultant and Trainer from Configer Pharmaceutical Consulting Services. His presentation was entitled "SAS Applications in Biotechnology". He unveiled the significance of Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and how it can be used for mining, storing, altering and retrieving huge amounts of information for data management and predictive analytics. He connected well with the audience and his talk was lively, fraught with real-life examples and case studies.
  4. On 02-JAN-2015, we organized a Guest Lecture in association with the ECE Department, in the room C-625. Resource person for this presentation was Dr. Srinivas N. Pentyala, Director of Translational Research, Stony Brook Medical Center, USA. His talk was entitled "Nanotechnology for Biomedical Engineering".
  5. On 28-JAN-2015, we organized a Guest Lecture in the Jasmine Hall, which was delivered by Dr. Claire F. Komives, who works as a Professor of Chemical Engineering at San Jose State University, USA. Her talk was entitled "Snake Venom Downstream Processing".
  6. On 09-FEB-2015, we organized a Guest Lecture in the Jasmine Hall, delivered by Dr. K. Yogi (Technology Development Manager) and Mr. Ashok Kumar Muddada (Territory Manager), representatives from Mahyco Monsanto Biotech India Ltd. Their talk was entitled "Role of Biotechnology in Agriculture – with Special Focus on BT Cotton".
  7. On 20-MAR-2015, we organised an Alumni Guest Lecture in C523, deliverd by P.Nimesh Chandra and Ch.Sachin (Y8 Batch students). Their talk was entitled "Career Opportunities for Biotechnology Graduates in India and Abroad".

Outreach by faculty:
  1. Dr.B.J.K.Singh has delivered a lecture on "Diagnostic and Therapeutic Immunology" at College of Medicine& JNM Hospital,WBUHS, Kalyani (date: 19-09-2014 to 20-09-2014)
  2. On 12-MAR-2015, Mrs.C.S.Felice has presented and has been awarded Best paper presentation at Noble PG College, Machilipatnam

Scientist Visited:
  1. Dr. Aruna Ninawe, Senior Scientist, Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India has visited the Biotechnology Department and interacted with faculty members.

Student Association Activities
  1. On 19-FEB-15, inaugural function of the student association of the Department of Biotechnology, Bio Engineers Technical Association (BETA) was organized in the room C-625.
  2. On 13-MAR-2015, BETA organized a event known as GO GREEN. As part of this event students went to the Mandal Parishad Primary School (MPPS) and the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in the village of Pedaravuru, Tenali mandal, Guntur district.
  3. On 20-MAR-2015, BETA organized an Invited Alumni Lecture, delivered by Mr. P. Nimesh Chandra and Mr. Sachin Chalapati in the room C523. Their lecture was entitled "Career Opportunities for Biotechnology Graduates in India and Abroad". These alumni graduated in 2012 and went on to pursue MS in Industrial Biotechnology from the University of Boras, Sweden. Now, together they established their own service industry for data mining and DNA analysis, known as Helixworks.

Professional Society Activities
  1. On 10-MAR-2015, we organised a meeting with all B.Tech students to inform and motivate about the Professional Society Activities across the world. In consultation among department faculty members, Society for Biological Engineers has been selected as Professional Society.
  2. On 25-MAR-2015, we started registrations for students and till date all the students of B.Tech have got registered and majority of the students have received the membership card.

Webinars
  1. On 04-MAR-2015, we organised a webinar by George Quellhunt from Qiagen,USA. His talk was entitled "qPCR data analysis".
  2. b. On 19-MAR-2015, we organized a webinar by Prof. Anjali A. Karande from IISC, Bangalore. Her talk was entitled "Generation of Antibody Diversity".
  3. c. On 01-APR-2015, we organized a webinar by from IISC, Bangalore. His talk was entitled "Flow cytometry".
