PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY ACTIVITIES:
1. KLU ASME Student Section visit to Railway Wagon CPOH Workshop, Rayanapadu.
Students of KLU-ASME were taken to a conference hall and addressed by Mr. Ganesh Babu, The Executive Engineer of C.P.O.H.(Central Periodic Over Hailing) Depot. He demonstrated the track maintenance by various machines through a video and then lead the students to the workshop where Mr. Sankar Rao joined and explained the components and terminology of railway tracks like Super elevation, Ballast, Valour. Later the student group followed him to the machinery area where they first came across S.C.R. UNIMAT-8282, which lifts the rail and the tamping unit stuffs the ballast under it to maintain proper suspension and elasticity. Next to that Mr. Ganesh led the students to the tamping unit workshop, where Mr. Guru Swamy, SSE-Engine Engineer explained the working of the heaviest engine, which is a turbo charged 3,000cc horse powered, 1,500 RPM, and costs 1Crore Indian rupees. It has 6 cylinder units with each unit consisting of 6 cylinders on either side. It is a programmable engine. The internal systems like air cooling system, water cooling system, V-shaped engines, L-shaped engines were explained lucidly.
Later the team persuaded to RGM(Rail Grinding Machines) workshop. Rail grinding Machines are used to remove the unnecessary hardness of the rail to increase the life of the rail from 5 to 10 years. Regular grinding prevents the friction and breaking of rails. The area of contact is changed with the help of RGM for better life time of the wheels.
2. KLU ASME Student Section 4th Annual Day Celebration
The 4th annual day celebrations of K L University ASME student section were held on 29 September, 2014 from 14:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs. The guest for the event was Commander V. V. M. Krishna, who appreciated the work of all the students in organizing an annual day celebration programme.
