Prof.D. Venkata Ratnam received the M.Tech. degree in radar and microwave engineering from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India, He got Ph.D. degree in electronics and communication engineering from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad, Hyderabad, India. His doctoral dissertation was conducted in consultation with Prof. A.D.Sarma, and examines the validity of ionospheric models for satellite-based augmentation navigation systems over India. He worked as a Research Assistant, Junior Research Fellow, Senior Research Fellow, and Senior Research Assistant with the Research and Training Unit for Navigational Electronics, Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. He joined as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of the Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering in 2011 and is currently working as a Professor, Head(Research) Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Head of the Centre for Atmospheric Sciences, KL University, Guntur, India. His research interests include satellites, navigational electronics, global navigational satellite systems (GNSS), space science, and radio-wave propagation. Dr. Ratnam was the recipient of the Young Scientist Award (2012-2015) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India, and the Research Award (2015-2017) of the University Grants Commission (UGC), India and Early Career Research Award(2017-2020) from Science and Engineering Research Board(SERB), India. His research investigates ionospheric variability and models using ground-based Global Positioning System Measurements. He has executed six sponsored research projects related to Navigation systems from government agencies like DST, UGC, SERB, and ISRO with a research grant of more than two crores. He has published more than 100 journal papers in IEEE GRSL and TGRS, JSTAR, and Advances in Space Research, and 50 national and international conference papers. He has published seven patents. He has established Space Technology and Atmospheric Science Laboratory at KL University and collaborated with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand, Nagoya University, and Space Application Centre(SAC) to carry out GNSS ionospheric Research. 10 Ph.Ds have been awarded under his guidance. He has worked on an international joint research program at Nagoya University, Japan July-October 2017 and Sept-Oct,2022. He has been awarded the best Teacher and Researcher award from KL University for several years in his service. He is a Fellow of IEEE, IE, and Indian Remote Sensing Society, Union of Radio Science professional bodies. He has been serving as Associate Editor for the IEEE Access journal. He has listed in Top 2 percent most influential scientists in the Worldwide by Stanford University, USA
