National Seminar on Recent Advances in Computer Aided Drug Design

The Department of Biotechnology, K L Deemed to be University Vaddeswaram, Guntur district had conducted one day national seminar on "Recent Advances in Computer Aided Drug Design"(CADD) on February 28th 2011 at K L Deemed to be University campus. The speakers of the day Dr. Raghu, Senior Director, Schr?dinger INC, USA and Dr. Ravi Kumar, Application Scientist had highlighted the importance of Computer Aided Drug Design (CADD) in Pharma companies and demonstrated Lead identification of novel drugs based on Pharmacophore modeling. They also highlighted the importance of reducing the high expenditure incurred in the development of drugs for diseases like Cancer, HIV, Diabetes etc., by using molecular modeling and drug design tools viz. (Schr?dinger suite). The program started at 9:30am and the opening ceremony was presided by Dr. G.L. Datta (Vice-Chancellor), Dr. S.Vijaya Saradhi (HOD of Bio-technology).
Nearly 200 participants from 14 institutes, including Universities (JNTU, ANU, Krishna and Vignan), Pharma and Degree colleges had attended the seminar. The seminar was concluded with end note of the convener Dr. T.V. Rao highlighting the importance of the software tools in modern drug discovery.
