112th Birthday of Padmabhushan Dr. K. L. Rao

14 July 2012: The Department of Civil Engineering, K L Deemed to be University organized a One day Workshop on "Krishna Delta Modernization" in commemoration of Padmabhushan Dr. Kanuri Lakshmana Rao an eminent engineer and politician. He is known as Father of India's Water Management and Agriculture as crores of Indians are getting food and farmers are surviving because of him.

Prof. K. Sree Hari Rao, Vice Chancellor of K L Deemed to be University in his keynote address briefed the contribution of Dr. K. L. Rao, to the irrigation sector. His 111th birthday was commemorated during the inaugural function while everyone paid their homage to Padmabhushan Dr. K. L. Rao.

The Chief Guest for the Workshop was Er. D. Sambaiah, Chief Engineer, Krishna Delta Modernization System. In his keynote address he highlighted the importance and necessity of Modernization of Krishna Delta Irrigation System in order to improve its efficiency and life. In this technical presentation he gave the details of various works taken up by the Department of Irrigation, Government of Andhra Pradesh for the modernization of Krishna Delta

Mr. K. Rajendra Prasad, General Manager of SEW Infra Ltd., was the Guest of Honour. He briefed about the importance of modernization of Krishna Delta and priority given by Government of Andhra Pradesh and fund allocation for the same. In his technical presentation, he gave the details of Krishna Delta Ayacut and explained how Sir. Aurthur Cotton conceptualized and built Krishna Annacut and how Dr. K. L. Rao designed and executed Prakasam barrage and Nagarjuna Sagar project.

Prof. G. V. Rao from K L Deemed to be University in his keynote appraised the vision and efforts of Dr. K. L. Rao as an Engineer and Politician, in meeting the basic requirements of human beings such as food, water and power in Krishna Delta and other parts of the country. He praised that role of Dr. K. L. Rao is commendable in making the Krishna and Godavari Delta as Food Bowl of Andhra Pradesh. He gave a presentation on application of geosynthetics in water resources development and improvement of drainage system. He also mentioned that Dr. K. L. Rao?s efforts in making the country self sufficient in food production should be remembered by all.

Prof. Ch. Hanumantha Rao, Head of Civil Engineering Department, K L Deemed to be University gave the Vote of Thanks while the workshop was participated by faculty and students of various engineering colleges in and around Vijayawada and Guntur.
